From Transactional to Transformational

Why did I go into HR?  Because HR is no longer transactional.  It is relational.  It is strategic.  It is dynamic, and it is constantly evolving.

While we are all works in progress, much like this website, I believe we should share knowledge.  Much like the cat in the logo, I think we should always remain curious. We should reach higher to grow in knowledge. We should be keen observers of our environment. We should exercise a laser-like focus on ascending to the next level of people strategy as an overall business value proposition. And, sometimes when we see needed change, we should jump up on the counter even if we get sprayed!

Secondarily, I believe HR has been looked at as a “soft skill” function, and want to change the term “HR Lady” to something that lends respect to HR and gives us the seat at the table that we deserve. I reject the old-fashioned notion that business should be viewed from a masculine lens. While assertiveness and risk-taking have a definite time and place, flexibility, patience, and intuition are equally valuable.

There are still those who view HR as the pencil-pushing hall monitor. Still, as we become aware of the necessity of HR as a critical business function, those perceptions are quickly disappearing. Today’s HR practitioner is focused on creating a diverse and equitable culture, partnering with the c-suite and marketing to align with the business goals, employee engagement and wellness, and creating value propositions tailored to the employee. So, as we say goodbye to the old-fashioned formality, hierarchy, and systems of yesteryear, HR is poised to shift even further with the advancement of remote work, more open communication, more agile career movement, and the development of predictive analytics.  The next generation of HR is innovative and exciting!
